The herb-of-macae (Leonurus sibiricus), Lamiaceae family, is a plant used in the treatment of various diseases, but there are few studies about its pharmacological action. Previous studies have demonstrated the effe
ct of extracts of L. sibiricus on the larval mortality of equine strongyles larvae. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro efficacy of aqueous extracts of L. sibiricus from different parts of the plant (stem and leaves) at different concentrations (5% a
nd 10%) at the eclodibility eggs and larval mortality of helminths. It was found that the treatments of stem 10%, stem 5%, leaf 10% and leaf 5% were, in this order, the highest values of dead larvae. Even in low concentrations (5 and 10%) the aqueous extra
ct of L. sibiricus was effective on larval mortality. The stem extracts were more effic
ient than the leaf extracts. Treatment with aqueous extract of the stem 10% show
ed the best results, demonstrating the larvicide potential of this plant.
