Both have 17.4 per cent and 19.3 per cent of the world’s population, respectively (IMF, 2012). They are also the fastest growing economies in the world. These two countries will continue to be the engines of global economic growth in the 21st century. In terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during 2011, China was second (US $ 7298 bn) and India was the tenth (US $ 1848 bn) largest economy of the world. The GDP value of China and India was equivalent to 10.4 per cent and 2.6 per cent, respectively, of the world economy in 2011.
