This paper aims to reflect on the performing body of tango in early Argentinean cinema. Tango performances in cinema are a locus, a framework of exchange of knowledge and bodily practices, ritualized and spectacularized. In this socio-cultural context, tango already operates as a true system of social representations becoming a category of aesthetic analysis and transmission of values. We discuss six films of this period in which the tango dance shares with cinema some aspects of their creative process trough cuts, a dimension that has been systematically ignored by historians.
