Abstract: In this study, the numbers and percentages of Black students who were enrolled in doctoral
programs in Texas over time were analyzed. Archival data were obtained from the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board Interactive Accountability system for the 2004-2005, 2009-2010, and
2014-2015 academic years. Inferential statistical procedures revealed that the number of Black
students enrolled in doctoral programs in Texas increased by an average of 14 students, or 2%
between the 2004-2005 and 2009-2010 academic years. For the 2009-2010 and 2014-2015 academic
years, statistically significant differences were not present in the number or in the percentage of Black
students enrolled in doctoral programs in Texas. Between the 2004-2005 and 2014-2015 academic
years, however, Black student enrollment in Texas doctoral programs increased by an average of 21
students, or 4.27%. Implications of these findings and recommendations for future research are
discussed.
