Materials for lake applications require certification. Venezuela has an aluminum industry of great potential, however, the national aluminum alloys (NAAs) have not been evaluated
with regard to their application in national lake environments, which vary in aggressiveness in
relation to the marine standards applied in naval constructions. With the intention of enhancing
the use of NAAs, its behavior in durability in a brackish lake environment such as the waters of
Lake Maracaibo was investigated. Specifically, the relative open circuit potential (OCP) behavior
was determined for two NAAs, A93003 and A96063. A95083 was also used as standard, with
imported origin and duly certified for marine applications. The experimental phase required a test
bank that allowed monthly evaluations of these alloys for six months, considering the formation
of biofouling morphologically and the living total sessile population, as well as their interfacial
interaction electrochemically, recording weekly the thermodynamic tendencies of corrosive processes through the OCP. Physico-chemical variables such as pH, temperature, the relative behaviors of the OCP values and their interactions with biofouling, were determined.
