Phenols were efficiently acetylated with acetic acid in the presence of catalytic amount of manganese acetate at
reflux condition in high yields. The process is efficient and eco-friendly in the sense that it avoids the use of acetyl
chloride or acetic anhydride and is percent atom economical.
