Objective: It was aimed to determine the cognitive flexibility levels and learning strategies of first aid
and emergency students and medical personnel providing pre-hospital emergency healthcare, and to
examine the relationship between them.
Materials and Methods: The sample of the study consists of the pre-hospital emergency healthcare
providers and students of the first aid and emergency programs in Canakkale. Cognitive flexibility and
learning approaches scale was used as a data collection tool. Non-parametric analysis techniques were
used in comparison and relationship of the data.
Result: A significant positive and medium level relationship was found between the cognitive flexibility
levels and the superficial learning approaches of the providers, and the cognitive flexibility levels of both
the working and the students and the superficial learning approaches. As the cognitive flexibility levels of
employees and both students and employees increase, superficial learning levels increase. It was found
that professional experience did not make a significant difference in cognitive flexibility, deep or
superficial learning strategies.
Conclusion: In the education of first aid and emergency technicians and in-service training of pre-
hospital providers, it is necessary to provide orientation to strategies and practices that encourage in-depth
learning. This approach will contribute to increasing the effectiveness and quality of the pre-hospital
emergency healthcare provision.
