Cryptography is formed from the combination of two Greek words Krypto "secret" and Graphene which means "To write". The encryption
techniques can be classified into two types as asymmetric key encryption and symmetric key encryption. In symmetric key encryption, the key with
which the sender carries out encryption is the same as the one with which the receiver carries out decryption whereas in asymmetric key encryption there are two
keys one is called public key while the other is called private key, public key is used for encryption while private key is used for decryption. In this paper, we
carry out a performance analysis of the following algorithms. DES, AES, Onetime pad Cipher are symmetric key algorithms and RSA is an asymmetric
key algorithm. The performance measure in terms of String length v/s Total Time Consumed by Algorithm was conducted to analyze which is the fastest
algorithm and which one is the most secure.
