In this study, in order to investigate the
development of the ancient western
historiography in Turkey in the last
decade, first of all the number of
academicians and their research fields
within this relevant area has been taken
into consideration. At the same time, the
studies in the disciplines of archeology,
epigraphy and classical philology have
been set forward in order to find their
common grounds with the discipline of
ancient western history in terms of their
methods and major subjects. On the
other hand, the intensity of the
publication of articles covering the
ancient western history within the
relevant periodicals in Turkey has been
researched. Moreover, the level and the
coherence of the research fields within
the discipline of ancient western history
in Turkey have been determined by
analyzing the thesis of master and
doctorate in this field. It has been
concluded that the works as regard to
the development of ancient western
historiography are not sufficient enough.
In particular, the publication of a
periodical of a certain quality in this field
is urgently necessitated.
