Morbimortality in an internal medicine service in a type IV hospital, San Cristobal, Venezuela.

Quality of life of a society is reflected in state of health, and it is evidenced in epidemiological records. The aim of this study is to determine morbidity and mortality in the internal medicine department of the Central Hospital of San Cristóbal, from October 2018 to March 2019. An epidemiological, observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out, collect discharge diagnoses in the health statistics and registration service, doing medical records review to improve sub-records and characterize patients with diseases more prevalent, these being identified as established by the International Classification of Diseases. A database was made in IBM SPSS 20 program, presenting results in percentage, measures of central tendency and dispersion. 55,48% hospital discharge they were feminine; 20.70% were over 75 years old, with an average of 57,31 years and standard deviation 20,93 years. 58.79% live in San Cristóbal city, and 5.36% come from neighboring cities. The average hospital stay was 5.47 days. Diseases with the highest morbidity were: circulatory system diseases (31,21%) digestive system diseases (11,66%) and infectious diseases (10,64%). The highest prevalence it was for Cerebrovascular disease (9,46%), pneumonia (5,75%) and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (5,20%). Mortality was 21.20%, being the main cause of cerebrovascular disease (12.64%), sepsis (10,41%) and pneumonía (7,06%). The results resemble to national and international statistics, to be the highest morbidity and mortality of the cardiovascular system diseases and infectious diseases.
