Sleep is the act of sleeping, it has been considered as an essential activity for human and others animals survival, the sleep disorders are associated with disturbance of the quality of life and performance in daily activities. Consequently, this article has as objective to write a narrative bibliographic review which includes the main sleep disorders, then the information was collected through the following search engines: COCHRANE, PUBMED, LILACS, SCIELO, SCIENCEDIRECT, SCOPUS. As conclusions, it was determined, several sleep disorders present clinical characteristics, it allows to reach the diagnosis, while other pathologies such as obstructive sleep apnea require complementary tests as polysomnography. Treatment should take into consideration the impairment of daily performance or comorbidities. it is emphasized the need to continue researching on therapeutic alternatives to improve the quality of life of the patient.
