The article briefly describes the life of the shining domestic scientist, there are the most important milestones in soil science – the works and discoveries in the field of soil water regime, the allocation and justification of the type of water regime, working out methods of soil hydrology.
Vysotsky introduced the concept of "hydrothermal regime" of soil, which he considered the most important from soil-formers factors. His ideas served for many years as a basis for fundamental research of soil water regime and water balance.
