Reinventing the Panopticon: from the Bentham's prison to cultural spaces in Spain

This study aims to show the current relevance of the Panopticon analyzing different Spanish cases that have been converted into several types of cultural spaces, which have achieved their conservation. This was not one of the ideas that Jeremy Bentham considered as he began to envision his "perfect prison". The English philosopher thought his peculiar building would serve primarily as a prison, but also as a hospital, a school or a factory; but he never imagined that one its most common and enduring use would be as a museum.
