This paper shows the history and evolution of the Albaicín Foundation, a municipal agency born in 1998 to manage and protect the Albaicín district in Granada. This district was nominated as a World Heritage Site in 1994 as an extension of the previous inscription of the Alhambra and the Generalife on the World Heritage List in 1984. We analyse the statutes and main activities of the Foundation, such as the management and implementation of several European grants, programs and projects, showing its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we include some conclusions about the present and future of the Foundation.
