SCARIFICATION ACID PROMOTES DORMANCY BREAK IN SEEDS OF Cassia leptophylla Vogel ?

The dormancy is a survival mechanism commonly found in species of the family Fabaceae, and in seedling production becomes necess ary to overcome it in order to reduce germination time. The objective of this study was to evaluate different treatments for cutaneous overcoming seed dormancy in Cassia leptophylla. Consisting of the following treatments: witness, immersion in sulfuric acid for 5 minutes, immersion in sulfuric acid for 15 minutes, immersion in hot water for 5 minutes, immersion in hot water for 15 minutes, potassium nitrate immersion for 48 hours with a concentration of 0.2%, potassium nitrate immersion for 48hours with a concentration of 0.5%, immersed in hydrochloric acid for 5 minutes, immersion in hydrochloric acid for 15 minutes and scarification with cutting nail cutter. The parameters evaluated were: first count germination performed seven days after installation of the tests, germination at 15 days, 21 days to complete germination and index of germination speed. The mechanical scarific ation by cutting is appropriate to promote the overcoming of dormancy of C. leptophylla.
