The leaves of the plant Andrographispaniculata(Acanthaceae family) collected from Kesla blockof Hoshangabad district, Madhya Pradesh, were shed dried and powdered and used for the present piece ofstudy. Standard operating procedure for screening natural product for hypoglycemic activity developed byCentral Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, has been followed. The sample exhibited pronounced hypoglycemicactivity. Thus the pharmacological study has established the nature of bioactivity of the herb. Phytochemicalproperties of ethanolic extract of Andrographispaniculata were evaluated. The phytochemical studies lead toisolation, characterization and identification of a particular species to pin point the active principle. Theelemental profile of Andrographispaniculata has proved the importance of the species and absence of heavymetals proves the worth of Andrographispaniculata to be used as safe medicine for hypoglycemic activity.
