Predestination in the Qur'an: Analysis of Ibn Kathir Commentary (Content and Lexicography)

For centuries, the predestination of human fate has been one of the most debatable issues in Islam. A number of roots are used in Quranic texts on this topic. The author distinguishes four top frequency roots and analyses their explanation by Ibn Kathir, one of the most influential Muslim scholars, in his commentary on the Qur’an. The author also provides statistics on the presence of the predestination topic in different periods of the Qur’an revelation and attempts at explaining why in the name of the topic two lower frequency roots are used.
