Estudos Universitários: revista de cultura emerged as an outreach program proposal, idealized by Paulo Freire in 1962, the year in which the educator founded, alongside other collaborators, the Cultural Outreach Service (SEC) of the University of Recife (currently the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE). The journal, which is linked integrally to the Dean Office of Culture and Community Outreach Program (Proexc/UFPE) and edited by the Coordination of Editorial Management and Social Impact (CGEI), has an inter and multidisciplinary nature, and promotes the circulation of knowledge and the dialogue between academia and the many sectors of society, through the biannual publication of its issues. Amid its various sections, Estudos Universitários publishes studies, essays, interviews, experience reports, reviews and translations, as well as literary creations such as short stories and poems. Issue by issue, Estudos Universitários reinforces its founding premise: to reflect the University’s mission in the Brazilian reality.
